Defeat The National ID Card

The Real ID or National ID Card needs to be defeated.

Besides being unconstitutional, it has very little to do with our security, but more to do with us little by little losing our liberties. It is a threat to our privacy as well.

The Real ID Act will allow the routine tracking of individuals and that will propel us toward a surveillance society. It will cause long lines, repeat trips and higher fees for people trying to get licenses and IDs at the DMV.

Also, there will be a hidden tax increase forcing Americans to pay more in state taxes to help offset the billions of dollars that this act will cost us. ID fraud will increase because all pertinent information on a person will be contained at the DMV.

Last year, there were 17 states that passed legislation objecting to the Real ID Act, while four states say they will not go along with it at all.
Virginia, on the other hand, through the DMV and Homeland Security, has been granted a waiver for implementation until Dec. 31, 2009 to come up with a plan B.

The fact is, we need to contact our state representatives to make sure that this is defeated and not allowed to be implemented at all.

Virginia's leaders more than ever need to have the courage to stand up against the federal government leviathan!
