Mitt the flip-flopper, squirming on guns, told Tim Russert the NRA gave him an endorsement. “I just talked about, about guns. I told you what my position was, and what I, what I did as governor; the fact that I received the endorsement of the NRA,” Mitt told Russert.

Not.

“He was never endorsed by the NRA, and didn’t have their official support during his 2002 gubernatorial campaign. The NRA declined to endorse in that race, as was acknowledged by Romney’s spokesman this morning,” notes the Washington Post.

“Mitt Romney as a candidate received a respectable B grade rating from the NRA, and when he was governor he had the support of the NRA and the Gun Owners Action League in relaxing some of the state’s burdensome licensing regulations,” spokesman Kevin Madden clarified after Mitt’s fib, or maybe it was an indication he is suffering from an early outbreak of Alzheimer’s.

Incidentally, just so you know there’s virtually no difference between Democrats and Republicans, Mitt’s opponent at the time, Shannon O’Brien, chalked up an “A” grade by the NRA. Go figure. And conventional wisdom has it Dems are usually gun-grabbers.

Not that the NRA is behind the Second Amendment. Back in June, after the Virginia Tech attack and the sustained campaign to remind us that the alleged shooter was a mental case, the NRA teamed up with the Democrat and notorious gun-grabber Carolyn McCarthy of New York to pass yet another gun control bill, this time imposing even more restrictions and so-called background checks on people who have decided to exercise their right under the Second Amendment. The NRA habitually rubs elbows with other declared gun-grabbers, for instance Chucky Schumer and Pat Leahy.

The NRA supports non-statutory BATF regulations to strip 110,000 veterans of their Second Amendment rights and also turn over medical records to the federal instant check system without a court order.

“Passage of McCarthy/Leahy/Schumer will not quell the calls for gun control,” explains Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America. “To the contrary, it will embolden our enemies to push for the abolition of even more of our Second Amendment rights. Already, the Brady Campaign has indicated its intent to follow up this ‘victory’ with a push for an effective ban on gun shows.”

And then the NRA supports California’s “microstamping” technology that marks spent shell casings.

Mitt may have slipped, making an erroneous claim a spokesman had to clean up after, but the fact that the NRA, no friend to the Second Amendment and in bed with top gun-grabbers, only bestowed a “B” rating on him indicates Mitt is a bona fide gun-grabber.

Never trust a flip-flopper with your constitutional rights.

Heck, never trust a Republican or Democrat.
